Coral Reef Shanty

This piece originally was a painting revolved around keystone species of the coral reef, which the Napoleon Wrasse, the big fish seen in the painting, serves as a guardian to the reef and regulates the crown-of-thorns starfish population, the starfish at the perimeter, at bay.

Later on, I augmented the painting into an installation piece and implemented ideas from the piano artwork series to extend as a trilogy. The keyword for this piece in my piano series is recovery, based on my wish of the audience hearing my sounds feeling comfort and immersion from the sounds I play and therefore filling life into them.

The piano keys are made so that they are seemingly playable and make them alter the water to breathe life into the corals and the ecosystem following into the painting, as if the audience could play their own ocean shanties through the piano.
